DIY Lace Trimmed socks!

I have been on the lace bandwagon for quite some time now and I have been wanting lace socks for the longest time. I've previously made one other pair which I didn't wear a lot because they weren't made very well (and now I have lost one of them lol) but I decided I wanted to make a new pair to wear with my Creepers which are due to be delivered some time this week. There is really no where in New Zealand where I have been able to find a nice pair of lace trimmed socks so I decided the only thing left to do was to make a pair of my own. I have made up this DIY all by myself (yay) so that means if you have a go of making them you should comment and show me :3 These little cuties are so amazing to wear with any of your favourite shoes and they are so easy to make for a fraction of the price you can buy them for!

What you will need:

  • a pair of socks (your choice of cut and colour although crew cut is the best)
  • 1 metre lace trim (your choice of colour)
  • thread and bobbin (to match lace trim)
  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • measuring tape
  • a pin

How to make them!:

1. Cut around 40cm of lace trim for each sock.
2. Pin one end of lace trim to the middle back of sock. make sure it overlaps a little past the middle.
3. Bring the other end of the lace and pin it also at the middle back. Make sure the two ends of the lace are overlapped.
4. Pull sock over sewing machine and make sure the presserfoot is down on the middle back where the two ends of the lace are overlapped.
5. Sew around the edge of the sock and lace trim with a zig zag stitch. As you are sewing around the edge, pull the edge of the sock to meet the lace. Keep this tension of the sock as you sew around the whole edge.

6. Trim off any excess thread and any lace sticking out to tidy it up. Voila! You have made a lace trimmed sock. :)

Note: Although after you have sewn the lace on, the top of the socks may look as though they have been stretched out of shape, once you put them on they are perfect :)
